Carey O'Grady

above: Man on Horse (detail), acrylic on canvas, 184 x 87 cm NEW

The Juxtaposition of the detailed and the graphic elements in my work is used both pictorially and physically to create a sense of dislocation. Pictorially my works contain a detailed subject within a space; their response to this space usually depicts anxiety, awkwardness and detachment. This is mirrored physically by the contrasting painting techniques. The figures are tightly rendered compared to the flat graphic background……… Carey O’Grady
