Artist Statement

My current body of work, Boat Series, examines the relationship between our thoughts and desires of material objects and the processes through which we pursue and realize them. What do we learn? What are we willing to sacrifice? How do we feel when we are unable to achieve or realize those desires? What does it mean if we do?

 The Process

Each timber boat featured in my paintings has been hand made and then lacquered or painted to achieve the desired result. They are then photographed in various situations such as in the process of burning, or melting when frozen in ice.  My paintings are then based on these photographs which give them their photorealistic style.
