Watt has a passion for capturing Melbourne’s intimate laneways, cultural celebrations and the inner city industrial locale. Her main focus of this urban-scape is the social interactions within and the effect modern day life has on the individual(s). The fast pace of the city is captured intuitively with an active modish style, depicting the fun of the city, where as in other glimpses reflect a sense of displacement, social status and forgotten collective struggles.
This work is presented in several photographic mediums which represent the past, present and future of photographic techniques. The traditional silver gelatin black and white hand prints, digital images printed on quality archival paper and images captured and presented in LCD electronic photo frames as a digital narrative.
Intimate Choice Intimate choice is a collection of photographs presented in a new way of displaying art, within a LCD electronic photo frame. It presents like a slideshow with 10 images to an Intimate Choice story (or artwork). The works are not printed, they stay digital within the electronic environment which is primary a luxuriously framed monitor.
This is an interactive piece where you get to narrate the story. You select up to 10 images of you choice from a catalogue (70 photographs in catalogue) and then the artist programs these photographs into an electronic photo frame. Too many images to choice from and you can’t decide on your favourite 10? Choose one of the artists already visualised stories or have her create a story especially for you.
The digital images from this series are all taken using a very personal camera, a Nokia mobile phone camera. “I really love working with such a small camera. It goes wherever I go and I can capture those unexpected moments. The camera produces gorgeous seductive colours and I turn the design faults of the camera to work in my favour, using the distorted plastic lens to create diffused and inviting images”.
